October 2009
Boost Mobile is an Optus service. If I recall correctly, they have revised their product offering a few times this year. The latest round sees a reduction of the portfolio to 3 products, Free Text, Text Monster and Super Cap. Night Talker (I think that is what it was called) and Web Rider have disappeared.

It seems to be they are trying to work out the positioning of this service in relation to the Optus offering and that of the rest of the market that has become quite competitive this year.

What stands out to me with these plans is that the calls rates are quite high at 44.5c and 39c (Optus pricing). Two of the plans are focused on offering Txt deals and are obviously targeting the youth market. Free Text combines My Credit (essentially allowing you to use your credit as you please) plus free text climbing to 300 where you recharge $70. Free Txt can be used on all networks. I think this works well and would appeal to many.

Their latest plan is Text Monster and offers 5c text to all networks. Call rates are slightly lower at 39c but credit either lasts for 15days where you recharge $15 or for $25 where you recharge for $25. Again targetting the youth market this will do well I believe.

Super Cap is essentially the Optus Turbo Cap with a $25 recharge offer and no $100 recharge. Once again targeting the youth with less to spend. Turbo Cap is a good product and I am sure quite popular for Optus.

I am not sure eliminating a web or data browsing offer was the right idea as this is a service that more and more youth will be looking to use. Maybe they will re-introduce it next year or they are leaving browsing to the Optus portfolio.
