| Optus is a leader in the prepaid mobile broadband market in Australia. Whilst the market doesn’t necessarily see them as having the same speeds as Telstra, nor the reach (although coverage wise they do claim 90%+), they are seen as better value than Telstra. Having followed their prepaid offers from when they were launched, Optus has chopped and changed their offers far too many times. The most confusing being last year when they offered both the Connect N Go and the Connect N Surf plans. I couldn’t understand the difference and why they offered both. Today they only have the Connect N Surf plans plus Data Days.Optus gives you access to a couple of starter kits which come with data, sim card and USB modem. Above I feature the 3GB option for $69 with the data lasting 25 days. The second option is the 1GB option for $39 and 15 days to use it. Following this you have a long list of recharge options starting with 575MB (15 days) which includes the bonus for recharging online and costs $20. The second option offers 3.45GB (lasting 30 days) and costs $40. For $50 you get 6.9GB (again lasting 30 days), for $80 you get 9.2GB (lasting 90 days) and for $130 you get 17.25GB with the data lasting a whole year.
Each of these recharge options gives you free SMS plus unlimited access to Facebook and Twitter. Beyond Connect N Surf you have what I would expect is a popular offer in Data Days. $3 per day gives you unlimited prepaid mobile broadband access. The recharge options for this plans starter at $15 for 15 days and end with $130 for 365 days. Unlimited prepaid mobile broadband is a relatively new concept and only a few providers actually offer this. Optus is one and another is Vivid Wireless. |

Terms & Conditions
The Optus Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband service is supplied in accordance with the terms of the Optus Mobile Internet Standard Form of Agreement. To use the service you need to credit your pre-paid account in advance and recharge the service as the current credit is used up. You will not be sent any bills, invoices or statements. You must comply with these terms including our Acceptable Use Policy (Appendix H) when using the service. The Optus Pre-Paid Mobile Internet service is a Pre-Paid Broadband Internet service and provides access to the Internet and related services. The service provides a connection to the Internet via the Optus Mobile 3G or dual band networks. The service is only available for use with an Optus supplied Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband SIM card and a wireless data modem. The Optus supplied wireless data modem is a USB modem (E160e, E1762, E153, E173 or E583C modem). You may use your own wireless data modem if it is approved for use on the Optus 3G or dual band network. Optus Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband service may only be used as a data service. You must meet the minimum system requirements as per the Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband packaging to connect to the service. Subject to your rights under the Trade Practices Act, Optus does not make any warranty regarding the software or data provided to you as it operates on your computer and interacts with your other applications. Optus Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband application shows approximate usage only. Modem is compatible with the MAC computers OS 10.4 or above.
Usage: The first 30MB of usage per day will be charged at 10MB. Usage after this will be counted in 10MB increments and includes both uploads and downloads. $30, $40, $50 Vouchers expire 30 days from activation, $70, $100 Vouchers expire 60 days from activation. $80 and $130 Vouchers expire 186 days from activation. Maximum data allowance is 10GB. If you recharge over this amount, you will forfeit any data over the 10GB limit. If you require additional SMS messages, you must purchase either another recharge voucher or a text saver voucher. Free standard national SMS can only be sent to Australian GSM Mobile or Mobile Broadband services. 1 SMS = 160 characters.
Optus Connect N’ Go Recharge Vouchers – 15% Bonus Data Allowance: Purchase a recharge voucher via credit card online at www.optus.com.au/recharge to receive an additional 15% bonus data allowance. $15 recharge voucher will give you 500MB and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 75MB bonus data with a 15 days expiry and 50 free standard national SMS. $30 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 1GB of data and 15 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 150MB bonus data with a 30 days expiry. $40 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 2GB of data and 20 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 300MB bonus data with a 30 days expiry. $50 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 3GB of data and 25 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 450MB bonus data with a 30 days expiry. $70 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 4GB of data and 35 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 600MB bonus data with a 60 days expiry. $80 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 4GB of data and 100 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 600MB bonus data with a 186 days expiry. $100 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 6GB of data and 50 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 900MB bonus data with a 60 days expiry. $130 Recharge Voucher will give you up to 8GB of data and 100 free standard national SMS and if you purchase the recharge online you will also receive up to 1.2GB bonus data with a 186 days expiry.
