A customer contacted me this week asking for options regarding taking a mobile broadband USB with them overseas. So I did the research (actually updated
my stats on this) and all I can say is do your research first!
These are the mobile broadband roaming charges form our main mobile broadband providers:
- Telstra – 1.5c/KB ($15.36 per MB). Buy a data pack at $29 for 10MB.
- Optus – 2c/KB ($20/MB) for most countries. Unlimited packs are available for travel to select Asian countries eg Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan & Thailand. $27 buys 3 days unlimited access, $40 buys 5 days.
- Vodafone – $8.19/MB. Packs are available for $29 for 10MB/mth and $49 for 25MB/mth. International roaming sim packs are also available and can save you a bundle as you can see below. Alternatively, you can also buy a local starter kit when you arrive. If you are taking your USB modem however, make sure it is unlocked.
