My experience with prepaid mobile broadband has covered all major telecom providers. Over the next few articles I aim to provide a simple overview of what you need to do to get started with your prepaid mobile broadband USB modem. It is actually quite simple to get started and you should be on the internet within half an hour at most.
Your Telstra prepaid mobile broadband starter kit includes a USB Modem and a Telstra Pre-Paid SIM card that operates on the Next G™ network and some credit. The three simple steps to get started include:
- Activate your Telstra Pre-Paid Next G™ SIM card
- Plug in the USB Modem to self install the Connection Manager
- Recharge via the Connection Manager
To activate your Telstra Pre-Paid next G™ sim card simply call 125 8880. Make sure you have your Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband service number, which you can find at the bottom right corner on the back of the pack. You will also need your DOB and identification details (such as driver’s license, passport or birth certificate).
Once this registration step has been completed, you now need to install the Connection Manager. The USB Modem will selfinstall the Telstra Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband Connection Manager. The Connection Manager is the application that allows you to connect to the internet.
- Switch your computer on
- Plug the USB Modem into a free USB port on your computer
- Accept the License Agreement
Your computer will automatically detect new hardware and start installing the software. Be aware that your anti-virus software may stop the application from installing.
Your prepaid mobile broadband USB will come pre-loaded with some credit, depending on the starter kit you have purchased. This is enough to get you onto the internet. Please ensure that you check your balance regularly so that you don’t run out for long.
