I began using this Optus product (it as a 1mth contract version) about 2 years ago, when I first purchased a smart phone. I would have preferred it to be month to month like it is now rather than contract because I would have been able to leave earlier. My complaint had nothing to do with the network performance (although Optus did cost me about $100 when they forgot to make a change to my account and blamed me for it). The issue really comes down to value. The first generation of these plans was released in late 2012 (following iPhone 5 release). The value was not great eg $30 for 200MB data and $200 calls is very poor.This week (8/4), they have updated the plans by cutting them back to just 2 month to month plans. This time $200 in calls and 200MB will cost you $20, not $30. Go to $40 and receive $500 in calls (232, 2 min calls) and 1GB. Yes much better value but these aren’t the best plans in the market. You can compare much better value plans here.I would expect that Optus will add to this list over the coming months as demand for 4G plans continues to grow. Whilst you will get service from Optus by going direct, I am not exactly sure that the premium is worth the loss in value compared to the likes of Amaysim, Vaya Mobile or Exetel.
