Prepaid Mobile Review – Lebara Prepaid Mobile

Lebara is a well known international service that was launched in Australia several years ago now to capitalise on the large international student market in Australia that calls friends and family o/seas on a regular basis. Obviously prepaid calling cards are a key competitor to Lebara’s offer and so are the growing international calling rate offers now made available by prepaid mobile plan providers like Optus, Vodafone and even gotalk. Standard calling rates are at 15c/min with a 29c flagfall. These are at the lower end. Txt at 15c which is a  little on the high side. The key with this program is to get your friends onto it so that you can call each other for free (no flagfall). Credits on the Standard Plan last for 90 days, which is a pretty good deal. Lebara also offers 1MB free data each day which can help you view a few emails and see some light internet pages. From there additional data usage costs 5c/MB (charged per/KB). You can compare their international calling rates on international calling rates page, we compare all of the majors here (Optus, Telstra, Vodafone, Virgin, gotalk, Hello) across over 10 countries. I have  trialed their free sim card offer and found it to be very good and easy to use. The set up was easy enough and the rates where as they stated so I am happy to recommend it as a service. You can read the Lebara review here. They currently have a Free Sim Offer which comes with a some basic credit. You can then recharge for $10. Lebara Mobile uses the Vodafone network.Lebara also now offer a big range of unlimited offers. The Mini Mega Plan offers 200 minutes of calls or 200 TXT, unlimited calls to other Lebara users, $5 for international calls or other non free services and 500MB data. This will cost you $24.90 and has a 30 day expiry. Once your 200 minutes has expired, call rates are 10c/min with no flagfall.  The other Unlimited offers including the National Plan and the Mega Plan are actually very similar except for the additional credit of $10 or more that they come with for international calls. The National plan comes with unlimited national calls and TXT plus 3G data. Excess data is 3c/MB (charged per MB). The Mega Plan has the same offer except for the $10 in international calls that comes included.
