Over the coming week, we preview each of the prepaid mobile providers one by one giving you some insight into what works for each prepaid mobile offer and what doesn’t. We start with Savvytel:
Prepaid Mobile provider Savvytel has received great TV coverage regarding its key ingredient – No Expiry Prepaid Mobile Phone Plans. Personally this is what attracted me to the plan for my wife’s phone. I believe that this is a great idea for those that don’t use their phone much, and are happy to put $100 on their phone and leave it their for 6 – 12months. I am sure its attracted many pensioners and those who have a mobile purely for emergency usage.
In terms of their call and other rates, they are also at the cheaper end of the market. They aren’t the cheapest but when you combine competitive rates and no expiry credit, you certainly have a winner. They use the Vodafone network which is also comforting.
The only disappointing factors are that there are no real data plans at the moment, even for occasional use and the sign-up process on their website is not really user friendly, even for someone who has signed up to hundreds of online forms. I recently did it for my parents and got stuck a few times. They are a small operator and so you can’t expect the number of call centre operators offered by the big boys. So you need to be a little more patient.
