The reason I started this website was because I was searching for a prepaid mobile plan for my wife and find it impossible to compare them all by simply visiting each carrier’s website.
I started writing details of each plan down and then ended up thinking that this might actually be useful information for others to share.
There are certainly plenty of post paid mobile plans out there. There are some that don’t actually charge you a monthly fee at all, their rate charges however tend to be pretty high. When I was looking at what to buy for my wife’s phone I considered an Optus plan because my home phone and internet etc are with Optus. There would be some savings going with Optus and some of the calls wouldn’t be charged at all. The Optus plans start at about $9 per month and then rise by about $10 per month. I would have selected a $19 a month plan. In a full year, this would have cost me $240.
The plan would have included $14 of calls per month, $5 of data (I wouldn’t have used), 25c flag fall, 46c per 30 sec on calls and 25c per txt. As a bonus they would have also given me one of Yes Talk & Txt, Yes Time, My Time and Yes Free Txt.
In most months my wife would have stayed within the $14, but lets say that for 3 of the months she spent a little more and the monthly charge went to $25. So in total we are looking at $258.
I instead chose to purchase a Savvytel Prepaid Mobile Plan. The Starter pack was $50 with $60 worth of credit and 4 months on she still has plenty of credit left on the account, atleast get her through to Xmas. The rates are: 12c per 30 sec, 20c flag fall and 15c TXT, much cheaper than Optus. Best of all call credits don’t expire.
So how much better off am I? At the current rate my wife is using her phone she is likely to need another $80 to complete the year. So the total cost will have been $130 compared to Optus’ $258. Pretty much half.
